Champion Mom: Sending Your Kids to Virtual Summer Camp

Who would have thought a year ago that the world would be turned so upside down thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic? And the ramifications of that outbreak are spreading to almost every area of our lives.

The latest to be hit are summer camps. While many of us have fond memories of spending time at camp with friends, this year those camps will be shut down. Instead, many parents are turning to “virtual camps” as a means of giving their kids some social interaction during the summer.

Here are some of the best options for your kids this summer:

  1. Art Camp 504 - If your kids are budding artists, or if you just want to keep them occupied and expose them to their artistic side, then check out Art Camp 504. This camp (traditionally housed in New Orleans) will feature upcoming courses on ceramics, clay sculpture, theater, and character/superhero drawing. There’s even a course for those interested in role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons.

  1. Camp Wonderopolis - This one has two things going for it—it’s creative approach to STEM education and the fact that it’s FREE! Kids can learn about the science of music, design their own city, and explore lots of different avenues in the sciences.

  1. Happy Camper Live – This site actually brings the full summer camp experience home (minus the mosquitoes and poison ivy). Your kids can do arts and crafts, learn to play a musical instrument, and get tips to improve their baseball game. Another thing that they won’t miss is bad camp food. This site will give them cooking lessons to keep them happy and full.

  1. The Bronx Zoo – Another area that has to cut back on visitors because of the pandemic has been zoos and museums. This virtual summer camp brings the Bronx Zoo to your home with behind-the-scenes videos and online tours of what goes on at the zoo. Kids interested in learning about different animals will love this one.

This year, you don’t have to worry about the kids driving you crazy because they can’t make it to camp. These virtual summer camps will bring the experience to you. Now all you need is a campfire and some s’mores to make the summer complete
