What type of fabric is on your upholstery? This is an important question as the fabric type can determine the best cleaning methods.
A professional cleaning company will understand the fabrics and know what products to use to best remove stains and soil, as well as to not negatively affect the color or fibers. Here are a few of the types of fabrics we have seen on upholstery.
Silk Upholstery Cleaning Denver
Available in a large variety of weight, weaves, prints and designs, silk is a luxurious upholstery fabric. Silk should only be cleaned by professionals, which includes treatment of spots as even water can leave a permanent water stain. It is for this reason, silk upholstery fabric should have a stain repellant professionally applied. Silk is a fabric that causes us to think of royalty and are used in many Eastern and European design.
Haitian Cotton Upholstery Cleaning Denver
Haitian cotton is typically grown in Haiti or India and is 100 percent cotton where all the fibers are not fully processed to give a natural, rustic appearance. Cotton seeds and stems become part of the look and appeal of the upholstery which is usually very tan, or cream colored, or dyed with natural colorings. It is recommended that a professional clean this type of fabric as speciality cleaning products and techniques need to be used to prevent staining or discoloration.
Velvet Upholstery Cleaning Denver
Velvet is known for being luxurious unique appearance and feel. It is not a particularly rugged fabric so seems to be used more for decorative elements as it can wear down under long or heavy use. It is particularly beautiful with wooden accents and on antique furniture. Improper cleaning of velvet can cause it to lose the nap or cause discoloration.
