Need a carpet spot cleaning before Christmas?
Monday November 16, 2015
Pets and children are the main causes of spots on the carpet.
They can't help it- it's just part of life when you have dogs and little ones running around. Well, now you are expecting some guests and don't have enough area rugs to cover all those dark spots on your carpet. You don't have time to rent a carpet cleaning machine, nor do you have time to do it a second time if and when those spots come back. Champion Carpet can help!
Once you have your carpets cleaned, you are going to want to keep them fresh and clean as long as possible, so here are a few tips to help keep your carpets nice with Christmas visitors:
- Adopt a "No Shoe Policy"
Asking visitors to remove their shoes, can really help keep your carpets looking nice. Imagine all the snow, mud and dirt that is being left at the front door instead of being brushed off on your carpets. Have you ever seen the puddles that are left below boots? Isn't it better to not have that resting on your ottoman or carpets?
- Use carpet runners
Carpet runners are a great way to catch extra dirt before someone steps on your carpet. The runners are less expensive and are easy to clean- either vacuum them as regular or even take them to a car wash and spray them clean.
- Use shoe covers
Shoe covers are disposable and easy for guests as they don't have to remove their shoes, but you get the benefit of their dirty shoes not being on your carpet. You can find shoe covers at your local hardware store if you need them right away, or online for a bit better quality.
- Set boundaries
Informing your guests of your boundaries- such as no food in the living room- can help keep carpets nice. Having enough seating in the designated eating area will encourage people to eat where there are limits to the carpet exposed to spills. Consider plastic under kid chairs or have them sit in a non-carpeted area, like a tiled kitchen, that is easier to clean up after spills.
- Communicate about pets
Some traveling families bring along their furry family members. Communicate up front about how you choose to treat muddy paws and indoor accidents. Hang bells on your door and before the dog is taken out for a potty break, ring the bells so the dog understands the bells notify busy people in the strange new home about their need to go outside.
- Be ready for accidents
Consider a spot treatment cleaner in case those accidents do happen. Clean white rags will help pull up spots and be ready to clean them up as soon as they happen. The internet has a ton of resources for how to clean up specific spots with products most people have in their house. You can't prevent everything, so keep a cool head, and spot cleaner on hand.
- Consider Scotchgard
For expensive fabrics and light colored carpet, a good coat of professionally applied Scotchgard can prevent stains and make spills super easy to clean up. Carpet and upholstery can be treated quickly and is a significant prevention tool.
We wish you a fabulous holiday season, and if we can help with spot cleaning treatment, a full carpet and/or upholstery cleaning or Scotchgard application, give us a call to get scheduled today.
