Champion Carpet and Upholstery Care recently was contracted as the preferred vendor for the Barth Hotel. The Union Warehouse, which is where the Barth Hotel is housed, was built in Downtown Denver in 1882.
The Barth Hotel was designed by F.C. Eberley who is also known for other Denver architecture in the Tivoli and The Mercantile, both part of Auraria Campus downtown.
In 1981, Ecumenical Housing, Inc. (ECH), a charitable nonprofit purchased the Barth Hotel to create economical single living units for low income seniors and disabled. A year later, it was added to the National Registry of Historic Places. The western-style hotel is located just blocks from Historic Union Station.
"One of the founders of Ecumenical Housing (ECH) was Stephen D. Gordon from the City & County of Denver Planning Office. Steve has continued to serve on the board of directors for the 20 + years of its existence." Source: Barth Hotel History
In 1987, ECH changed their name to Senior Housing Options, Inc. (SHO) to better market the main objective of the group which was to provide an alternative to a nursing home for seniors on a limited budget. Residents are required to be 50 years of age or older and independant.
In 2005, over 1 million dollars were put into renovations to make the Barth Hotel the Senior Living Community it is today. It still boasts original window, tin pressed ceilings, steel columns and an oak mezzanine. Currently 62 residents call the Barth Hotel home. Active residents have access to all Denver has to offer including shows at the Denver Center for Performing Arts, the Pepsi Center and even Coors Field for a Rockies Game.
