The Most Effective Way to Dry Wet Carpet
Tuesday March 1, 2022
Wet carpets pose the greatest threat of mold growth. Mold is also known to cause allergies and respiratory infections, and therefore rapid carpet drying is required. If mold is left in a moist place, it multiplies rapidly, posing an immense danger to your family. It’s important to remove water from the carpet within 48 hours, although it should be done as soon as possible.
Water Source
In order to dry your carpet, you must first determine the type of water present. If the dampness is caused by clean water, probably from a burst pipe or a foundation leak, you can save the carpet, as long as you act quickly. A professional should be called if the dampness was caused by dirty water, such as sewage backup or washing machine drain water.
We will assume, however, that your carpet is wet because of clean water in this article.
Soaking
Using dry towels, soak up all the excess water from your wet carpet. During this step, wet sections of your carpet are covered with your towels spread out wide. As a final step, you should step your feet or hands gently over the towels so that the excess water can be quickly absorbed. It is necessary to replace the towels continuously as they become saturated with water. To prevent dripping water in other areas of the room, store the wet towels in a bucket or wring out any excess water.
Vacuuming
You can determine if there are no visible traces of water on the carpet by trampling over it and seeing if there is any visible water on it - then vacuum the moist carpet with a wet-dry vacuum cleaner at this point. It is not recommended to use a traditional dry vacuum to vacuum your carpet, as they will not work and possibly even damage it. Repeat going over the moist carpet in slow, straight lines until it feels dry, emptying the vacuum's tanks as needed.
Of course, another solution would be to hire a reliable carpet cleaning company to come to your business or home and professionally clean (and dry) your carpet. We hope you’ll consider Champion Carpet & Upholstery Care the next time you need carpet cleaning services.
Evaporation
In order for moisture to vanish, it must have time to evaporate. Many tricks can assist in faster evaporation. These can be used one at a time or as part of a combination. In the carpeted room, open the windows and doors to let the cross breeze in. In humid weather, however, you should close the windows and doors. You can reduce the humidity levels by using the window air conditioner or turning on the central air conditioner. If you have portable fans, you should plug the fans in and direct them towards the wet areas of the carpet.
Still Not Dry?
If more is required, baking soda is not only essential to absorb moisture, but also to remove the bad odor that comes with dampness. Dehumidifiers should be run until you are satisfied with the results for a refined dryness.
