Surviving Your Office in the Summer
Tuesday May 22, 2018
Let’s face it, when the summer rolls around, the last place many of us want to be is in the office. The beach, the pool, the park, or just a comfy hammock in the backyard—all of these places are calling to us after we clock-in at work. It’s even worse when there are other distractions around to remind you of the fun to be had outside. Now that summer’s here, let’s try to focus on things you can do to survive your office.
The “Frozen” Air Conditioner
It’s far easier to get warm if you are cold than it is to cool down if you are hot. That’s why most places of business keep their AC at “Sub-Arctic” settings: the comfort of a cool space can draw customers inside on a sweltering day. However, if you have to work in these temperatures, it may be hard to focus on anything except the sight of your breath. Consider storing a small jacket at work to keep you warm when the air conditioner is set to “Freezing.”
Take a Walk
During the summer, a lot of people who work inside find themselves listless and daydreaming about the outdoors. If you are sitting at your desk and your legs or fingers are bouncing with nervous energy, then it might be a good idea to get up and go for a quick walk around the office. Use any pretense, even if it is just getting up to go to the bathroom; those few steps can help you burn energy and get you more focused on your work.
Get Outside
A lot of people spend time in the office breakroom having lunch. With the beautiful summer weather coming on, take advantage of it and plan your lunch breaks outside. You’ll find that your spirits are lifted when you get to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.
Stock Up On Deodorant
As the temperatures climb, you are going to sweat. Don’t be known as “that person” who comes in pleasantly scented only to get, shall we say, “a little ripe” as the temperatures rise. Keep a bottle of deodorant in your desk and reapply it during the day for your peace of mind and the consideration of your co-workers.
This summer, taking a few simple steps to make yourself happier and more comfortable at work will also boost your productivity; this makes your time away from the job much more relaxing.
