Prepping Your Office Carpeting for Winter
Wednesday October 25, 2017
Winter is right around the corner and for many offices and businesses that means a lot of increased traffic. As customers come in for holiday shopping or to wrap-up year-end business, your carpets are going to take a lot of wear and tear that could make your floors look dingy and dirty. And if you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow, you’ll get those dreaded salt stains and footprints from people tracking in slush and ice.
It’s not uncommon to get your carpets cleaned more regularly in the winter months to help combat the seasonal wear and tear. Increasing routine maintenance is a great way to keep your business looking its best. And to help with the process, there is some pre-cleaning maintenance you can do to make your cleaning quicker and more efficient.
Here are ways you can prepare your office for its winter cleaning:
Declutter
One of the first things you should do is have your staff declutter their work areas as much as possible. This will make it easier to move the furniture. After the decluttering, move the furniture out of the way so that the cleaners can get better access to the carpet. You want to do this ahead of time so that the building is ready for cleaning.
Do a quick vacuuming
This one may seem counterintuitive, but it’s a good idea to get a quick vacuum cleaning in before you do a deep cleaning. This will make it easier to get up major spots and stains, which is what the cleaners should be concentrating on. Some cleaners will offer to do the pre-treatment vacuuming, but this often comes at an additional price.
Move the drapes out of the way
If you have heavy drapes that cover up part of the carpet, you may want to move these out of the way so that they don’t get damaged or block access to areas that need to be cleaned.
Cover up the baseboards
The baseboards of your wall may become damaged or dinged by the equipment or the cords. Investing in some painter’s tape to cover the baseboards will help protect them.
Clean out the parking area and entrance
It doesn’t make sense to spend money to clean your carpets only to track in dirt and grease from the parking lot and entranceway. It’s a good idea to sweep out the area and hose down the parking lot if you can to prevent this from happening.
Before you hire professional cleaners to get your carpet cleaned for the winter, it’s a good idea to get some of the prep work taken care of. By taking the time to cover these steps, you will ensure that your carpet will get the proper cleaning and that your business will be back up and running in no time.
