Our Best Tips for Maintaining Your Upholstery and Furniture
Sunday January 10, 2021
In between a call to the professionals to come out and clean your furniture and upholstery, there are some things you can do to maintain and keep these items in good shape in between cleanings.
Clean furniture not only looks, and smells, fantastic - it also helps you keep your living space healthy! This is especially true if you have pets, or anyone at home that suffers from dust or pet dander and allergies.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Make a Schedule - It’s important that you vacuum and dust your furniture often. You may not be able to see it but those cushions are trapping in crumbs, dust, mites, hair and other dirt every day. The more frequently you vacuum, the less likely those bits will become embedded and harder to reach / clean.
- Brushing - Many fabrics can be brushed without wear or tear so pick up a soft, bristled brush for spot checks. Grab some with a dustpan to keep that dirt from moving to from your couch to your carpet.
- Rotate cushions - If you want to improve the longevity of your cushions and throw pills, rotate or flip them often. Flipping the couch cushions over occasionally will increase their lifespan. Having a backup set of throw pillows isn’t a terrible idea either.
- Be prepared - Spills happen so go ahead and purchase some fabric cleaner, stain sticks, or whatever else you used to clean them up and have them on hand for emergencies. The sooner you get to a spill, the less likely they’ll be a stain. Having the right tools on hand for these inevitable moments is essential.
