Throughout the year small business owners and property managers can easily get caught up with the chaos and growth of their companies and overlook the necessary upkeep of their workspaces. It’s important not to neglect our offices, property and work space and to do the best we can to keep up with regular maintenance. Here is a list of tips and tricks to help you keep up with your commercial maintenance and still keep your sanity!

Set Reminders

A simple and easy way to keep up with the maintenance of your office, facility or building is to set reminders. You can set these up in your calendar app on your phone and schedule them to repeat as often as necessary. If you prefer a more tradition paper calendar, jot down little notes throughout your calendar to remind you of regular maintenance you should have on your radar. We have included a list at the bottom of this article of common maintenance items and when to consider them.

Trust Is Key!

You might be a rock star around the office but that doesn’t mean you have to do everything! You have important work to do and it’s not spending time keeping the area tidy or the carpets spotless. This is where you need to find a good team to outsource your maintenance needs. Make sure it’s a company that you feel comfortable communicating with and that responds to your concerns and needs promptly and responsibly. Trust is very important! Try asking around to get referrals for services from other business owners you know to ensure your short list of prospects are all great options.

Hire Professionals

Professional commercial cleaning companies know what it takes to get the job done – even tough or complicated projects. These businesses can invest in the best and most updated equipment, avoiding the need to put aside some of your operational budget to purchase expensive (but necessary) technology and tools. Take, for example, carpet cleaning - sure you might have a steam cleaner around the office for small messes or maybe you’re considering renting one from a local department store. These machines do a decent job, but do not get your carpets as clean as a professional industrial carpet cleaning system. A professional carpet cleaning company will know how to best care for your flooring while producing optimal results. If you aren’t sure how to do something, call up a professional. Avoid trying to be the Everything CEO and potentially causing more harm than good. You need to be out there growing your following and making waves in your industry – not worrying about the clean up process.

Maintaining a happy and healthy building for you and your team doesn’t have to be a huge burden. With a little planning ahead, teamwork, and professional help (if necessary), you can keep your commercial space beautiful and functioning in tip top shape!
