Champion Mom - Things You Can Do at Home Right Now
Sunday May 3, 2020
For most people who have been stuck at home during the COVID-19 lockdown, cabin fever may be setting in. You know how it goes—you’ve binged everything on Netflix multiple times, you’ve eaten all your emergency supply snacks, and you are worried you are turning into Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
But don’t lose hope just yet! There are still many things that you can do to keep boredom from setting in for you and your kids. Here’s a sampling.
- Get caught up on your reading—Many publishers are releasing new books as a way of taking advantage of our downtime. And many of these can be accessed digitally, so you don’t have to go outside or even have anything delivered. If you need a new cookbook to spice up those family dinners, check out Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Table Volume 2. Also, for the little ones who are going stir crazy, Audible is introducing a free series called Audible Stories. These audiobooks go from early elementary all the way up to literary classics and offer something for everyone.
- Travel to New York for some culture—Not literally. Travel is still a big no-no. But during the lockdown, the Metropolitan Opera in New York is offering a free performance every night of one of their award-winning operas. These beautiful productions are fully subtitled, so you don’t have to worry about learning Italian during the quarantine. And these are a great way to introduce kids to the joys of classical music.
- Cook up something good—Here’s another great opportunity to take advantage of: Bread Ahead, a top London bakery, is offering free cooking classes on Instagram. Check out how to make homemade breads and chocolate brownies. Even if you can’t do the tutorials, this is a great chance to have the supplies delivered and brush off that old cookbook you got when you moved out for the first time. Try something new and get your kids involved to help along the way.
With most of the country shut down, many companies and groups are banding together to help those who are isolated. This is a great opportunity for you and your family to take advantage of these programs and try something new tonight.
