Champion Mom: Planning Seasonal Family Fun this Autumn

Autumn is an awesome time to get out and enjoy yourself with the family, especially if you have been cooped up in the house for parts of the summer. (Who really wants to go outside when the temperature is over 100 and you have air conditioning at home?)

Now that the temperatures are dropping, you can bundle up a little and really get outside and have a blast. Here are some things you can plan to do this fall with your family:

  1. Go on a hayride — A hayride is just one of those simple, childhood memories that many of us have that we want to share with our children. When planning to go on one, just check out the Internet or your local newspaper to see what groups, farms, or churches may be hosting these. Be sure to pack some light blankets and a jacket in case it gets too chilly out on the trail.

  1. Get lost in a cornfield — Corn mazes have really taken off in the last decade and some people have elevated them to an art form. Once again, just look for local farms that might be hosting such an event and then head out and enjoy yourself. If you like spooky fun and have older children, some of these mazes even offer “haunted corn maze” events at night.

  1. See a football game — Fall and football go hand-in-hand, especially when it comes to local high school or college games. Once again, pack some jackets and blankets, bundle up on the stadium bleachers, and cheer for your team. Be sure to also pack a thermos of coffee or hot chocolate to warm you up as you watch the game.

  1. Go for a walk on the beach — If you live near the coast, you may think this one sounds crazy. After all, isn’t the summer when you head to the beach? But many people enjoy the cooler temperatures of fall to take off their shoes and walk along in the sand and take in the beauty of the ocean. As an added bonus, this is the off-season for many beach resorts and hotels, so you can often get a discount and don’t have to fight with a lot of crowds hitting the area.

This fall, take advantage of the cool climate and get out and appreciate the beauty of the world around you. There are many different activities that you and your family can truly enjoy.
