Champion Mom: Keeping Your Sanity During Winter Break

Winter break is nearing, and many moms are freaking out because that means 2+ weeks with the kids. When you throw in the excitement of the holidays and the possibility of being snowed in and developing cabin fever, no wonder moms worry about their sanity.

Here are fun activities you can try to keep your little ones occupied and your sanity intact:

1. Christmas Ornament Crafts — This one should be a no-brainer. Tap into the Christmas excitement by having your child make special ornaments for the tree. If you have room in your house for a second small tree, then consider letting the kids have this one all to themselves to decorate with their own homemade ornaments.

2. Blanket Fort — When the temperature drops, then the heavy blankets come out of storage. So now is the perfect time to build blanket forts around the house and have some creative playtime.

3. Paint Chip Scavenger Hunt — This is a creative way to jazz up the old favorite scavenger hunt, especially if you have young children learning their colors. Go to the local paint supply store and get a handful of different color paint samples. (You know the ones—cards with five different tints of the same color.) Then, turn the kids loose in the house and look for objects that match those colors.

4. Movie Marathon — The wintertime is also a great opportunity to curl up on the couch with the family and have a movie marathon. Introduce them to old school classics such as White Christmas, It’s a Wonderful Life, and Miracle on 34^th Or you can also throw in some more familiar holiday flicks like Home Alone or The Nightmare Before Christmas. Make it really nostalgic and make some popcorn on the stove instead of the microwave. (Bonus points for Jiffy Pop!)

This winter break, don’t be worried about keeping the kids occupied. Give them some of these go-to activities and just sit back and enjoy the fun!
