Champion Clean – How to Clean Your Tile and Grout
Tuesday September 22, 2020
Tile can be a wonderful addition to any home, be it tile floors, bathroom tile, or a tile backsplash in the kitchen. Tile is resilient and easy to clean making it a popular home décor choice. However, while the tile may clean up easily, the grout that accents the tile doesn’t always do the same. If it’s been a while since you cleaned your grout, you may not even remember what the original color is.
Here’s how to get that grout looking shiny and bright!
- Method #1 — The Toothbrush: Probably one of the oldest, tried-and-true methods is to first wet the area with hot water and mild dish soap. Then, take an old toothbrush and scrub the grout slowly and methodically. The more time you spend on each section, the better it will look. But, if you have a large surface area to clean, this one can be painful and time-consuming.
- Method #2 — Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda: If you want a DIY grout cleaner, try sprinkling baking soda over the surface until the grout is covered. Then spray the entire area with hydrogen peroxide. Let the two substances react for about 10 minutes and then scrub the area clean.
- Method #3 — Mopping: If you’re trying to clean the grout on your tile floor but don’t relish the idea of getting down on your hands and knees with a toothbrush or a scrubber, then try this one out. Mix a bucket of hot water with a ½ cup of hydrogen peroxide and a ½ cup of white vinegar. Then, simply spread the mixture across the surface of your floor with a regular push mop and scrub the grout without having to hurt your knees. (This option is also a good one if you add a few drops of an essential oil to help give it a fresh scent.)
You no longer have to look at your tile and wonder what the original color of your grout was. Find the grout cleaning technique that you like best and that fits your needs and you can ensure that your tile will look as good as new.
